Drought in Horn of Africa

Poor rainfall in the Horn of Africa has significantly exacerbated the drought situation caused by El Nino last year, and the region is now facing extreme food insecurity. This is now severely affecting many of the communities in which we work, especially in Somaliland and  Kenya.

The Food and Agriculture Organisation reports that close to 12 million people across Somalia, Ethiopia and Kenya are in need of food assistance, as families face limited access to food and income, together with rising debt, low cereal and seed stocks, scarce water and pastoral land for livestock, resulting in low milk and meat production.

ActionAid is already responding in Somaliland and Kenya and is appealing for funds to help us scale up our response.
